Malaysia's gold price moved lower again on Wednesday morning. Maybank reduced its one-ounce Kijang Emas selling quote by RM89 to RM17,824 on 21 October 2026, while the bank's buyback price fell RM78 to RM17,130.
The local spot reference also weakened. HargaEmas.my showed 999 gold at RM542.085 per gram at 11:18 AM Malaysia time, down RM2.089, or 0.384%, from Tuesday. Its 916 reference stood at RM496.550/g.

Kijang Emas Falls RM89 From Tuesday
Bank Negara Malaysia's Kijang Emas table confirms Wednesday's one-ounce selling price of RM17,824 and buying price of RM17,130. Tuesday's corresponding rates were RM17,913 and RM17,208.
The smaller coins followed the move. The half-ounce selling quote declined RM46 and its buyback rate fell RM39. The quarter-ounce selling price dropped RM23, while buying eased RM19.
The one-ounce buy-sell spread widened to RM694, equal to about 3.89% of the displayed selling price. That gap matters to short-term buyers because it is the difference between Maybank's purchase and resale quotes before any other product terms are considered.
At Wednesday's displayed rates, the price would need to recover by more than the initial spread before a same-provider resale reaches the original purchase level. The calculation does not predict future returns, but it explains why the buyback quote is as important as the headline selling price when comparing physical bullion.
BullBuzz's 20 October gold update recorded a RM198 decline. The latest RM89 reduction therefore extends the pullback, although the pace has moderated.
Maybank Gold Account Rates Also Ease
Maybank's conventional Gold Investment Account selling rate fell RM2.76 from Tuesday to RM551.38/g. Its buying rate declined RM2.39 to RM530.36/g, leaving a displayed spread of RM21.02 per gram.
The bank's Islamic MIGA-i board updated at 9:03:18 AM. For holdings of 100 grams and above, it quoted RM558.35/g selling and RM535.12/g buying. The below-100g tier stood at RM565.85/g selling and RM534.62/g buying.
Physical coins, investment accounts and local spot references are different products. Their prices can move by different amounts because of update times, product rules, denomination costs and provider spreads.
Global Gold Holds Near US$4,117
International bullion remained under pressure. Kitco's live gold chart showed spot gold near US$4,116.60 an ounce late Tuesday in New York, down about 0.18% for the session after trading between US$4,105.40 and US$4,156.30.
A Reuters report carried by Business Recorder put spot gold at US$4,118.76 earlier Tuesday, down 0.51%. The report said oil-driven inflation concerns were shaping expectations ahead of the Federal Reserve's next policy decision.
For Malaysian buyers, the ringgit remains part of the calculation. HargaEmas.my displayed MYR/USD at 4.0883. A firmer ringgit can soften local gold prices even when dollar bullion is steady, while a weaker ringgit can amplify gains.
What Malaysian Gold Buyers Should Watch
The next test is whether the local 999 reference holds above RM540/g and whether Maybank changes its morning board. Buyers comparing options should record the product, selling price, buyback price and timestamp together.
They should also compare like with like: the same coin size or account tier, quoted by the same provider at roughly the same time. Comparing an unallocated account rate with a physical coin can produce a misleading conclusion about which price moved more.
Recent sessions show how quickly direction can change. BullBuzz tracked a RM120 rise on 19 October before the two-day decline, following a RM139 rebound on 16 October. A daily move alone does not capture the cost of entering and exiting a position.
Prices are time-stamped snapshots for comparison, not investment advice. Confirm the current provider quote before transacting.
